The Diary

JOE C: Greetings everyone. We’ve decided to go on hiatus for the rest of the summer. There are a lot of things brewing over here, but Pete and I are both slammed with our day jobs and we just can’t give ‘Evil Diva’ the attention she deserves. Apologies for the interruption and we’ll see you all after labor day.

INCENTIVE ART: Virgil’s office layout.

  1. Sylent

Maybe she’ll be lucky and Gabe’s adopted…but I’m ready to bet that Angela is her twin sister.

  2. Creed

This is not intended to be rude or demanding, it’s just an observation: where has everyone gone? There used to be 2 updates a week with descriptions and/or comments from Team Diva & the comments section used to be full of speculation, thoughts and ship battles. Now this feels like a ghost town. :( Team Diva, you still have lots of fans who are enjoying this story, but at least for me I miss hearing from you. Weather it’s page descriptions or a short update on the state of the comic, I know your fans would love to hear from you; I definitely would. Fans, let’s show Team Diva that they haven been abandoned, that we do still read and care. Leave a comment, an encouragement, something – if we want Team Diva to keep writing this story we have to show them we still want to read it.

  3. Superbia

For the past month or so the updates have been rather inconsistent, with no explanation (not even “we’re switching to once-a-week updates”). That plus the fact that this “diary” segment seems to be dragging on a bit is probably why there is not much fan activity.

  4. Queenie Capria

why is there an update like once every two weeks. I’m checking every day and nada. Where did the staff go? Were they all abducted by aliens or something?

  5. LaughingTarget

The artist picked up a gig drawing Magick Chicks (which is how I found this comic) and is likely treating Evil Diva as a “in my spare time” strip.

  6. Day

It’s funny, because I was intent on posting a comment today if I checked and there was no update; seems I’m not the only one.

I don’t get why it’s so hard to give your comic an update, it’s just simple diary entries right now. You write them, no drawing involved. You can do this in about 10 minutes tops. Seriously, this is starting to get ridiculous. There are no updates, there’s no sign of life from the crew, what the hell guys? I miss when this comic was the highlight of my week. Now it’s like I just check it out of habit : / If you’re done with this comic, just be done with it and let us know. Don’t be a Hanna is Not a Boys Name.

  7. juno

man wish there werent so many negative comments.. but ,like day, this comic use to be what i was thinking about all the time and what i looked forward too every week now i only check it if theres absolutly nothing else to do plus i only started this comic for the art and characters now its changed and they havent shown any artwork in forever

  8. pedestrian

It is unfortunate that the author and artist for Evil Diva have reached an impasse. If you do not want your fan base to evaporate, it would be helpful to issue some sort of mission statement. Then we could understand your problems and sympathize and have some sort of idea of when we can expect this terrific storyline to resume.

Perhaps, if you can not yet make any firm commitment, how about setting up a page to where we fans can volunteer our email addresses, that when you can resume, you could send us notification?

  9. kabbes

Fortunately, we have a tweet to let us know exactly when this diary segment started.

    131 days and counting.

  10. Creed

Ok, can someone explain to me what happened with Cassandra? I know she’s drawing another comic; does that mean she’s not drawing Evil Diva anymore & they’re looking for a new artist? Is that why there hasn’t been a drawn page in awhile? From what some of you have said it seems like there was an announcement but I must have missed it.

  11. Ginger

Every time I take a vacation, “catch up on comics” is always on my to-do list when I get back. So…all caught up now!

  12. Keito

I’m with Creed–I miss the activity around here as much as the comic itself. Hellooooooo, Team Diva! Stop by and say hi!

  13. Queenie Capria

I wish there was something, even if it was just to tell us there wont be more updates, the waiting is killing me.

  14. Andrew

I’m happy Im a patient person. Take your time, but best hurry, others are getting impatient. This is the results when you make a very popular and well constructed webcomic

  15. kabbes

You mean this used to be a webcomic? When was that?

  16. DropDeadPoet

Wow, I remember when fans used to be all, “Take your time, I’d rather a good comic than a rushed one,” etc. I’m honestly grateful for having the diary entries, and look forward to when Diva is back on her feet again. There are webcomics I follow which have had less than 6 updates this entire year. I admire Team Diva’s dedication to providing us with some story while they work out what’s going to happen next.

ALSO: The crew here on the good ship Diva/Gabe may have a massive hole in our hull, but we have buckets, hammers, and wood… just hoping to get some nails before we sink in the gulf of Too Bad You’re Related.

  17. Creed

YAARRRRRR!! The ships sail again! :)

  18. Ginger

Take it easy, guys…we’ll be here waiting!

  19. Andrew

I’m actually getting worried here guys…… hope something bad didn’t happen

  20. Superbia

@Andrew: Nothing happened (unless there’s something else going on that they haven’t let us know), they’re just busy.

  21. Andrew

@Superbia It helps to keep your readers informed……. plus it has happened, writer’s aren’t immortal after all

  22. juno

ugghghgh im just about reasy to give up on evil diva as sad as it is to say

  23. fairportfan

    * cricket * cricket *

  24. Creed

At least there’s been more fan involvement with the comments. I’m still periodically checking the site to see if anyone new commented; hope this keeps going even after the comic is back. :)

  25. Andrew

comments and the fans are all that is keeping this comic going. and if this comic doesn’t get going again, I’m going have to move it to the bottom of my reading list….. my reading graveyard

  26. fairportfan

    It’s dead, Jim.

  27. Susian

    Wait until after Labor Day.

Then you can call it dead.

  28. Tavid

I’m sure it’ll be dead after then, too.

  29. Mel. Star.

Well, Labor Day is 9/03/12 so I can wait a week after that to see what happens.

  30. Creed

The comments sure seem to be peetering out. But luckily that’s not an indication on the state of the comic… just a state of the readership. :/

  31. Day

Creed without readership there won’t really be any comic. I’ve been sticking by this comic for a while, even though I really wanted to leave after the last story arc. I still check this every now and again but it’s doubtful to me that Evil Diva will ever be what it once was.

  32. kabbes

Well it’s official. Half a year since they posted the tweet saying “OMG! Someone is posting pages out of a diary. I hope it’s not mine. Why would someone do that?”

Half a year (at least) of no comic. Is it dead yet?

  33. Sicarius

    …I dunno kabbes…*looks about* Let’s poke it with a stick! ^^

  34. psycoceanic

They said they’d see us after labor day, which is in 3 days… I say we give it at least until then to start poking it with a stick…. things that are sleeping /really/ don’t like getting poked with sticks, I know this from experience

  35. Creed

Lol – psycoceanic, what did you poke with a stick? I can only imagine it was large and/or sharp.

  36. psycoceanic

Neighbor’s doberman when I was 8… on a dare. Man was I glad for the invisible fence that day!

  37. kabbes

I don’t know what “Labor Day” is — or why it is spelt without a “u” — but has it arrived yet?

  38. fairportfan

    Spelt without a “u” because it’s USAian.

It’s a holiday, dedicated to honouring the laboring man; give them one day to call their own, and you can go back to screwing max work for min benefits the other 364/365…

Anyway, it’s the first Monday in September.

    Today.

  39. Day

Well, it’s after Labour Day (just for you Kabbes).

I still only see dust bunnies.

  40. kabbes

    ::tumbleweed::

  41. Creed

It’s only 2 days after. I’m holding out ’til at least a week for some “status update”. After all, Joe didn’t say when after, he just said after.

  42. kabbes

Bless you and your naive optimism.

  43. Day

Waiti for this is a lot like waiting for Hanna is Not a Boys Name to update: Never going to happen. I’m just going to unbookmark if they don’t update anything by tomorrow.

  44. Queenie Capria

    well… it’s past labours day… I can wait some more days.. I guess…I wish you’d just update though…
Kind of hard to keep the faith going, but… as a devoted diva fan, I hope this isn’t the end…

  45. Susian

I wonder how many people have donated since the diary pages started.

How much does it cost to make a diary page? Maybe we just haven’t donated enough for the team to order another one.

  46. Superbia

@ Susian – Honestly, I think it’s kind of ridiculous if it “cost” anything to make a diary page, since most of them only consisted of about a paragraph typed onto a reusable background image. I highly doubt they were commissioning anyone to make those for them.

Even if it is the case that they’re not updating because of money problems, it’s their responsibility to let their readers know that’s the case.

  47. fairportfan

    Week since Labor Day

  48. Creed

Team Diva: I’m not sure if you guys are reading these comments or not, but we would love to hear from y

  49. Creed

(bah, stupid done button on smart phones) *ahem* anyway, we would love to hear from you. Even if it’s just a “be patient” text, we still want to know you all are there, that home base didn’t explode and that you’re all okay. Comic info would be great too, but that will get here when it gets here.

  50. kabbes

I seem to remember some kabbessandra or other predicting that no comic could survive the pay structure Team Diva decided to put in place. If only I could remember who that handsome, witty, intelligent Nostradakabbes actually was.

  51. Sicarius

*pats teh kabbes* Yes, kabbes, we get it…we bow to your superior intellect…please, lend us your wisdom and guidance in the tempestuous days to come! :P

  52. Marietta

Yeah, even I’m giving up. Sorry, Team Diva. I’m really going to miss you but at least a quick “Hey, we’re still here!” would have been nice.

  53. ResidentWeavil

Moving this to my Dead comic list. That way I remember to check every couple of months in the unlikely event that it reappears. Last real art was back in Feb and at that point it was only coming in every 3 weeks or so.

Too Bad. But you get what you pay for.

  54. Mel. Star.

I’ll still keep coming once every Tuesday like I’ve been doing for a while. I hope everything is all right with the ED Gang. *waves*

  55. psycoceanic

Dearly Beloved, we gather here to say our goodbyes.

  56. Juno

    (frowns then sighs) huh… .. Juno signing out … .. .

  57. Sicarius

    …I think a tumbleweed just blew by…

  58. Lela

    Dead or comatose :(

  59. Sicarius

…is this the part where someon cracks wise about how web comics don’t die…they just fade away?

    *whistles absentmindedly*

  60. Mystic

    Signing out as well.

  61. Iochannon

Ending on a cliffhanger… I really don’t have the words for this.

  62. kabbes

Relax folks. It’s only 209 days since the tweet about the diary starting, so it’s only about 7-8 months since there was last a proper comic update. /It can still happen/. Clap your hands if you believe in fairies.

  63. Queenie Capria

    …and I’m still checking weekly. I’m a bit sad.. it’s like they gave up….
    WHHHYYYY?

  64. Rosebud

Oh no. This doesn’t sound like it’s going to end well.

  65. Addy

really hope there will be updates soon! I love this comic and it would be such a shame if it was to stop!

  66. megsong23

I’m checking about once a week now too….got hooked on it two days before this page went up….

  67. odevisky

Life happens, hope things are going alright! Get back to us when you know there’ll time to dedicate enough energy to Evil Diva so we can all enjoy this piece of work to the fullest!!

I’m gonna make some fanart =)
And will keep checking back here periodically xD

  68. Mel. Star.

Happy Tuesday everyone. Well… I guess I’ll be back next week. Have a good one! Keep up the ED faith.

  69. Raamyah

Well, their artist was hired away, and last I heard they were going broke producing it. Those factors might have something to do with it.

Who knows? Maybe they are building a backlog of pages…

  70. SquareBubble

I keep checking back too c:

  71. Sylent

I wonder if they’d be willing to let someone else take over?
    Creative Property Rights and all.

  72. kabbes

The twitter’s gone. How can I monitor the length of time since the diary started without the twitter thingy? It was at about 230 days last i saw it.

  73. Jason A. Canty

Hello All. Just letting those know especaly the ones that check back often that EVIL DIVA WILL return with new
content this Spring. If you want to help speed up her return check out the Angry Viking Press Kickstarter!

  74. Mel. Star.

Use a date duration calculator ^^ But for the sake of today: the cover page was published February 26, 2012. That was 228 days ago.

  75. SadPanda

I love how they are part of this kickstarter :http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/6076321/angry-viking-press-going-forward-with-great-new-pu and yet there is nothing on the Evil Diva site about it. I think that tells me they really have abandoned the comic.

  76. Becky

Check the Kickstarter in the Ad. Looks like ED is going dead tree, least for now.

  77. kabbes

Great idea. They can’t manage to keep their promises online, so the obvious solution is for us to hand them money so that they can fail to keep them in meatspace too.

  78. Susian

It’s cool, it looks like the rights to Evil Diva got sold off. The people running the Kickstarter don’t seem to be related to Pete and Joe.

Gee, if only someone had told us.

  79. Stephanie

Yeah…sorry ED folks…I’m done. I’ve been checking religiously just in case there was an update (even just a text update of what was going on). I’ve had enough. I’m not going to support a kickstarter that lumps ED in with stuff I don’t read since I think ED will just get lost in the shuffle (and, quite frankly, I don’t trust you guys to actually come out with any new content). I’m deleting my bookmark. So far as I’m concerned ED is dead and rotting in a field (I would say buried but that implies a level of responsibility and caring that I haven’t seen here). Sayonara!

  80. Jason Canty

Hey all. I’ve tried posting updates here. But didn’t seem to take (or a mod deleted them) Anyway I’m The Publisher of Angry Viking Press. And this has been in the works since this time last year in all honesty. While I have no controll over the Web Version of Diva, it is planed to continue, as for the print Diva… Well their will be lots of new content. Lets say it will take place during Middle School years. I won’t say more than that at this time.

  81. Jason Canty

Oh and Stephanie (or anyone else still here) not sure if you’ll read this since you said you’ll be leaving. Diva will not be lost under the shuffle since she’ll be the first in our new Lineup and we have plans for her way beyond that.

  82. Superbia

Jason, you seem unprofessional and frankly, sketchy as hell. I don’t really care if this comic has been abandoned or not, but I just want to say that I hope that anyone who may be thinking about giving this guy money will wait until there’s solid proof that Team Diva is working with him (or has given him permission to take over the project), and that this project will actually be completed.

  83. Jason Canty

Oh my. I’m sorry I gave that impression, I’m not sure what made me come off as Sketchy or unprofessioinal, but I’ve been noticing fan concerns about continuing of Evil Diva, and infact I started off as a fan as well so I
was glad when Team Diva contacted me and my company about Diva’s future. I was hoping to inform people
that Diva was infact going to continue with out giving to much away as to what is being worked on and that it
    was not abandoned.

I do hope Joe and Pete update all of you about Diva’s future soon.

  84. Superbia

Sorry for being suspicious of you, Jason. The fact that we’re still getting complete silence from Joe or Pete made me wonder if you were someone trying to get money by republishing (or claiming to republish) an abandoned comic, but I’ve looked at your website and stuff since I made my comment and you do seem to have at least some other artists collaborating with you on projects, so I’m more inclined to believe that you’re not trying to cheat people now.

The complete silence from Joe or Pete is a big part of why I’m lacking confidence in all of this. I hope they update us soon too.

  85. Jason Canty

Well I guess my weakness (besides horrible spelling lol sorry theirs no Spellchecker here at work so if you see an error oops!) which is also why I probably came off unintentionaly sketchy, is I’m a bit too eager to help others, which is what first drew me to Evil Diva as a fan in 2009. When I found it shortly after it started some aspects of her eagerness, to be the goody goody at the cost to her-self, reminded me of my-self growing up.

    I in fact started Angry Viking Press to help all these artists that I just happened to know find a place to get their works out. I mean I could have saved my self a lot of money and trouble if I just continued with my science studies. ^^;

I again don’t want to give to much away since, well its not the best thing to do in business (something I’m still learning) but when I was approached sometime ago I said “I am honored, but I am not sure my company at this time could give Diva the proper exposure and resources that it deserves”… Because again I as a fan really wanted to see Diva grow.

Other things happened that might not be the best thing to talk about business wise in public (nothing bad, good in fact, just heh you got to keep secrets in business and negotiations unfortunately) but as things went on, on my end theirs has been a deliberate plan on my part at least, that I and my company can to give Diva all that a comic like this and fans like you (and me) deserve. Also I tried to put out some art incentive support here and their (that younger and older Diva back to back, and Diva and Princess Luna pictures for example. ;) )

Well that’s enough bean spilling for now, I will say that we on the Angry Viking Press side have new stories planed for the print younger Diva, and something is in the works for online teen Diva.

  86. Creed

You know, I remember Joe writing a while back that something exciting was in the works; I can only assume this is what he was referring to. Jason, thank you for the response and information. I was surprised when I saw ‘new content in the middle school years’ – that should be very exciting. :) I can’t wait to see what’s coming, but boy I’d love to hear from Team Diva; it’d be nice to know they’re still out there. :/

  87. Marietta

I actually saw the Kickstarter ad on another website and came back to check in. Thank you for updating us Jason! I’m very excited to see what your team has in store and hope the Kickstarter project works out!

  88. Mel. Star.

I’m sorry if this has been explained already, but does this mean that this diary arc won’t be completed? Or will the new “hands” be able to finish it once all the ink drys on the business deal?

  89. kabbes

Jason, I hope you aren’t the editor.

  90. Jason Canty

No thank god I’m not the Editor, Just the publisher (the guy that pays for everything).
