Sketch Comics: (Really) Old Man Adventures 3
Sorry about the lateish update tonight! I always underestimate how long a given (R)OMA strip will take me, especially on this one since it was short. This one was inspired by something that always cracked me up when I read the Inferno: Dante always seems to be fainting at inopportune moments. Getting attacked by unfriendly woodland creatures? FAINT. Entering some new Hellish territory? FAINT, FAINT, MORE FAINT. Fictional Dante sure had a fragile constitution!
Another new incentive from Jayd — this one is more like finished lineart, and it’s super cute. This one was Pete’s idea, and I must note that he did some rather fabulous modeling for Dad’s pose. ;)
EDIT: By the by, if any of y’all have any silly ideas for the (Really) Old Man Adventures title block, let me hear them!

Virgil boxing a bear!

Oh no, no, no. Not Michelangelo. Ninja Turtles.
(I don’t think any of those artists come from Dante’s time, though. They’re more 15-16th century. Still. Ninja turtles.)

For some reason Virgil seems perfect to go with Sean Conory as Indiana Jones’ dad, exploring ancient ruins and stuff.

OMG! Rofl. So much! ‘I have a condition’. Your comic always makes me laugh so hard. You have such a good wit and sense of humor.

With the shift from the Divine Comedy of Dante to a Virgil-centered perspective, an MC Escher motif might help preserve the theme of stability of Dante’s Catholicism for the change in perspective. The image of Virgil carrying Dante through an impossible landscape might serve as humorous contrast to the tradition of Dante’s canon. Imagery compatible to this that comes to mind are some of the psychodelic stuff from the 1960s like Jim Steranko’s splash pages for Marvel and imagery from the Prisoner (which also may segue nicely with the ending the second issue ending on a note of intrigue).

Ahahaaa…”I have a condition, you prat.”
Like shaking him was gonna help, lol. It was nice to see Virgil not looking like he knew how to handle everything, for once.

“This is no time to swoon like a woman.” Lol.
A question/thought occurred to me whilst looking at the (R)OMA banner: When and where does Virgil find Mr. Fluffykins or whatever the cat’s name is?
And yes, I typed “whilst” without thinking about it.

O.–
M. F. G.!!
Rrrrrreally old man adventures: How do I love thee, let me count the episodes…
From the splash panel (really, a dinosaur? That is so cool! I don’t care if it is satirical or factual–especially the point that he was OLD!! when battling the T-Rex) and the kat heroically in action–I am really loving the splash panels if I was not clear enough, by the way–to the demons (“Hold me!” ROFLLMAO hysterically!), to “Dante the brave” (Brave, brave Sir Robin…).
I am so enthralled with this new spin-off (and the artistic stylings) that I am at a loss for words; nay, one word can I still conjure forth to express my deepest feelings on the matter:
MORE!!! More, damn you!

I can only recommend you hold onto your enjoyment of life’s simple pleasures.

Actually, if you think about it from a writer’s point of view, it was quite opportune! It let Dante avoid writing about crossing the river Styx and save it for a later scene, and other such moments. However, still hilarious.
