Q: Who are you guys?
A: (Pete) I'm Pete Menotti, and I started MCre8ive in Los Angeles in 2000 after a stint as the Creative Director at Virgin Interactive. I've been playing with the idea for Evil Diva for over two years, ever since my daughter came up with the name. She was kind of the inspiration because she is an evil diva. This is a labor of love, as we currently make no money off this ... and I still have to pay Brinson.
(Brinson) I'm Brinson Thieme, and I'm a girl! (Just in case you guys were, uh, wondering.) I got my MFA in Sequential Art from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2006. After my own stint wanting to claw my eyes out at Kinko's, I met Pete San Diego Comic Con in 2007 and we hit it off immediately. Now he pays me to draw and write comics! I like this job. :)

Q: How often is Evil Diva updated?
A: (Brinson) Two pages a week, every Saturday. Because I draw Evil Diva at work, there may be weeks when I skip or delay an update: paying jobs come first. I'll be sure to post a note on the site if I think I'm not going to make the Friday deadline.

Q: How is Evil Diva drawn?
A: (Brinson) I start with a full script. I thumbnail the whole script out at once -- I tend to get two pages of thumbnails for every page of script. (You can view some thumbnails here at the Evil Diva Livejournal Community.) Once I'm finished thumbnailing, I arm myself with a mechanical pencil and lay out each page on some natty old Blue Line Pro boards I found under the copier. (Aren't comics glamorous?) It generally takes me a day to day and a half to draw the pages, since the linework needs to be super-tight -- I don't ink.

Q: How is Evil Diva colored?
A: (Brinson) In Photoshop. More specifically, each page is scanned on the aforementioned copier, then levels adjusted and cleaned up some more. I set the page to CYMYK and begin laying in flat colors with my Intuos III. (A tablet isn't necessary, but it certainly makes fine erasing/detailing easier.) Once I'm done with flat colors, I set up a second multiply layer and drop in the shadows using a single blue-purple-gray color. Finally, I create another normal layer and clean up any bits that are still looking messy. I'm hoping to create a tutorial later to show this process step by step.

Q: I have questions about Evil Diva. How do I get in contact with you?
A: (Pete) Shoot us an email at evildiva@pacbell.net. We'll do our best to get you an answer ASAP.
